YAKIMA ELKS SENIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT 2008 - HOME OF MIKE SHOSKY & OTHERS

Yakima Elks SEnior Golf Tournament 2008
Exalted Ruler's Message July 2008

Dave Richcreek

For all the Lynnwood Members that don't live locally we have had a very cool spring and we are hoping that July will bring us summer. It has been so bad that even the golfers have been complaining a little bit about the cool weather, I am sure it makes your hands cold and is harder to hold on to your clubs.

It is official! We have lost another social security paying member and he is now withdrawing instead of contributing to the system. Doug (cambug) Shultes we will miss you being at all the meetings and all your contributions to various events. This was a little bit of a bumpy start for this Fraternal year as we have lost three brothers. We will miss you but not forget you as your names go down in the tablets of love and memory.

I am so lucky to have such a great group of Emblem ladies to draw from when we need some help. On June 14 Flag Day Emblem stepped up and helped with the ceremony by carrying in the different flags for us and we got to borrow the organist. Thank you Margi Borgert. We had a little potluck after and with a little extra help from Kay and Howard things got done. Also thank you Emblem for a great job on the fathers day breakfast. I for one am glad that the men did not have to cook their own fathers day breakfast. This was a nice change.

Things coming up in July are the Edmond's fourth of July parade. We will be leaving the Lodge at about 10 AM to go to the staging area. Like most years we will meet at the lodge to get re-hydrated and undecorated after the parade. This is a potluck. The Lodge will provide the hamburgers and hot dogs. If you wish to eat please bring a side dish.

On July 20 we will be having a Tall Elks car wash. Please bring your dirty cars and trucks to the lodge and help us raise money for the children's therapy program. We can always use helpers that are willing to get a little wet and help wash cars. On July 26 we will have the rescheduled raffle dinner, It will not be cooked by the normal members this time and will be a Chinese dinner theme. If you don't have a ticket yet you need to get hold of Curly, George Beukers or the E.R and we will gladly make sure that you do not miss out on this great dinner. Prize money payout should be about 1600 (not in one lump sum) so get your tickets soon. This is to raise money to fix and repair the neon sign out front. August is not to far away and August 3 is the lodge picnic so plan on coming. Also August 24 is the ER and Emblem president Bar-B-Q. We will have a dunk tank and maybe a cake walk, so put these things in your plans for the summer. The ER and Emblem picnic is a fund raiser for the Elks lodge and Emblem. I hope every one has a safe and sane 4th of July.

Fraternally, Dave Richcreek

DINNER AND RAFFLE

Well here's a report from your raffle guy's. As you noticed we canceled the original drawing and dinner night as we had just too many tickets left. Tickets sales have picked up a bit, we still have some left if you want one. The new and final date for the drawing and dinner is July 26th, with dinner starting at 6:00 PM and the drawing starting about 6:30 PM.

Now you are asking yourself if this dinner worth buying a ticket for. Carroll and I believe so. This year we are going Oriental. The menu will consist of Fried Rice, Chow Mein, Sweet and Sour Pork, Beef with Broccoli and Szechuan Chicken. I'll say right now that you need not worry that Carroll and myself will be trying to cook these fine items. NO WAY!! We got a professional and we know it will taste really good.

Remember this raffle is to help pay to fix the outside reader board. The tickets are only $25.00 each and there are 21 CASH WINNERS with the big prize of $625.00.

Carroll and George have tickets and if you would like one or would like to help sell some please get hold of one of us. Have a great SUMMER (when ever it shows up) buy a ticket and see you at the lodge or the drawing.

IT JUST TAKES ONE!

Just think if every member just brought in one new member we would be close to have nearly one thousand members. Besides getting to know more people and making new friends, we would have more participation with our events, and possibly more volunteers to help out with various functions etc…

NOW HOW ABOUT A CHALLENGE?

I would like to challenge every member to bring in just one new member AND whoever brings in the most new members will have their next years dues paid for them. Ask you neighbors, friends, sons, daughters, friends of sons & daughters, students, colleagues, spouses. Maybe someone you really like that you think would appreciate our organization and what we do for the community. Some of you new members (at least the last three years new) came in with enthusiasms and wanted to be able to help. Well now you can help by bringing in someone new! P.S. Look for a new twist in the membership committee!
